Victories for Scariff, O'Callaghan's Mills and Crusheen

There were three senior hurling championship games down for decision last weekend as round 5 got underway. In Group 1 Scariff ensured that they have avoided the relegation play-off after they defeated Broadford by 0-16 to 2-8. 1997 All-Ireland winner Barry Murphy notched 0-7 for the Scariff men while Broadford had their goals from Stephen Gunning and Cathal Chaplin. Broadford now go through to the relegation play-off with Scariff advancing to the Senior B quarter final. Meanwhile in Group 2, O'Callaghan's Mills qualified for the quarter-final stage for the first time in seven years after Declan Donovan's injury time goal saw them overcome Smith O'Brien's by 3-17 to 2-18. The Mills led at the break by 2-10 to 0-9 thanks to goals from Adrian Flaherty, who finished the game with a tally of 1-11, and James McMahon. However the introduction of Kevin Walsh to the Killaloe side for the second half provided the spark they needed as he added 1-3 in the second period while older brother Liam also raised a green flag. Smith O'Brien's led by the minimum coming towards the end of injury time but up stepped Declan Donovan to send his side through to the last eight. In Group 4, Crushee qualified as runners up thanks to a comprehensive 3-14 to 1-7 victory over St. Joseph's Doora/Barefield. Gerry O'Grady bagged two goals with Conor O'Donnell also hitting the net for Crusheen. Enda Lyons got the St. Joseph's goal.
