NFL 4: Tubridy wins it for Clare

March 07, 2010
Clare 2-12
Leitrim 0-17

Leitrim were made rue a host of missed chances yesterday afternoon as they slipped to their third defeat while Clare moved joint-top of Division Four in the National Football League.

There looked to be only one winner of this contest at Ennis after the opening 35 minutes, as the fired-up visitors held a 0-9 to 0-5 when the sides went in for the half-time interval but they had struck eight wides from play during that time.

Mickey Moran's team kept their foot on the throttle early on in the second-half as Michael Foley helped move them into a 0-13 to 0-7 advantage, but, to their credit, the Banner men never threw in the towel and they would get their just reward for it.

Barry Toner's long ball fell past goalkeeper Gareth Phelan and into the Leitrim net which was a shot in the arm for the hosts, as they reduced the deficit down to three facing into the last five minutes of the game. Then Chris Dunning's shot found its way past Phelan and the sides were level.

Gary Brennan and Darren Sweeney swapped points before David Tubridy scored the winner in injury-time to cap off a brilliant come back from Clare.
