Clare Champion Cup coming to the boil

July 03, 2009
As the league stage of the competition draws to a close, there are some interesting times ahead in the 2009 Clare Champion Cup. Six of the eight rounds have been played in the top grade and most of the key issues will be resolved in the coming weeks. Clooney-Quin and Newmarket - who played out a thriller last weekend - lead the way at the top of the Division One table and look odds-on to both advance to the semi-final stage. Crusheen, Clarecastle and Cratloe are the three in contention for the other two last-four berths. But Cratloe aren't yet safe at the other end of the table either. They could still slip into relegation peril, though it looks like any two from Sixmilebridge (who prop up the table), Tulla, St Joseph's and Inagh-Kilnamona will be relegated to Division 2A. Fresh from their defeat of Tubber, Eire Og are setting the pace in Division 2A, but they have a fight on their hands as Whitegate and Clonlara are hot on their heels and have games in hand.
