Munster JFC: Cork and Clare to meet in final
June 08, 2009
Cork and Clare will meet in the Munster JFC final following their victories over Kerry and Limerick respectively.
At Killarney, Cork produced a dominant first half display to overcome Kerry by 3-10 to 0-9 with full forward Fiachra Lynch helping himself to 2-3. His excellent left-footed finish in the seventh minute helped the Rebels to a 1-3 to 0-4 interval lead.
After Kerry midfielder Andrew Garnett had reduced the deficit to the minimum on the restart, Lynch pounced for his second goal in the 33rd minute, and the outcome was never in doubt thereafter, with substitute Michael Murphy's late major wrapping up a comfortable win for the visitors.
In the other semi-final at Cusack Park, Clare recovered from a shaky start to beat Limerick by 0-13 to 1-6. An own goal by Clare full back Brian Cummins gave Limerick a 1-4 to 0-4 lead after 16 minutes, but points from Pat Nagle, Brian Carrig and Dessie Molohan had the hosts on level terms at half-time.
Limerick introduced former senior star Muiris Gavin on the restart, but Clare remained in the ascendancy and pulled away with scores from Johnny Daly, Mark McCarthy and Molohan.
