GAA no back number for O'Donovan

Limerick's Jim O'Donovan
Limerick star Jim O'Donovan could have been sharing Heineken Cup rugby glory with Leinster - but he insists the GAA is now his clear number one priority. London-born O'Donovan spent time on the books of Lansdowne and was handed a development contract with Leinster, where he worked under Matt Williams and current boss Michael Cheika. However, a series of back injuries curtailed his progress in the oval ball game, culminating in his return to GAA with St Kieran's and Limerick. He told the Limerick Leader: "I was always built more like a GAA player - I needed to put on a bit of weight [to play rugby]. "I was flying [one] pre-season and then a week before we were due to leave for France for a training camp I did my back when I was doing a squat. I got about four back injuries in the space of six months and in total around that time I think I played one game in the AIL with Lansdowne and two games with Leinster 'A'. "But football was always something that I loved. I actually think it is a more skilful game. I always wanted to try to play with Limerick as well as with St Kieran's." The 28-year-old trainee doctor will partner John Galvin at midfield as Limerick set their sights on a place in the Munster SFC final at the expense of Clare on Sunday.
