Wolfe Tones to dig in their heels
August 29, 2008
Wolfe Tones have indicated that they expect a re-fixture after not fulfilling their SFC clash with Shannon Gaels last weekend.
Though both teams had already qualified for the quarter-finals regardless, the result in the final group game would determine who tops the section. This has a big bearing on who they face in the last eight.
It's expected that Shannon Gaels will be awarded the points, which would consign the Tones to a repeat of last year's quarter-final against Kilmurry-Ibrickane. They would almost certainly appeal against this scenario.
Wolfe Tones wanted the Shannon Gaels match called off as their hurlers were in action the previous day. Brian O'Connell, Brian Lohan, Frank Lohan, Patsy Keyes, Jamie Walker and Mickey O'Connell are all dual players.
Club chairman Chris Price points out: "No other senior club was asked to play senior championship on successive days."
