Sixmilebridge GAA Weekly Notes

April 25, 2013
It was another action packed weekend on the adult hurling front teams with all five teams penned in for action. The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the U21 semi-final win over Ballyea with another thriller served up by both teams. As a result of this win we now meet neighbours Clonlara in the county final.

U21
The first team in action were our U21 side who took on Ballyea in the championship semi-final replay at Clarecastle. Another exciting tie was again served up by these two with Sixmilebridge advancing to meet prevailing by 1-13 to 0-14 win. An early Alan Mulready goal gave us a 1-6 to 0-6 interval lead before Ballyea eventually fought back to level the match after 55 minutes. Once again the match went down to the wire with two points from Alex Morey near the end giving the Niall Gilligan managed team the victory.

Sixmilebridge: Pa Freeman; Barry Fitzpatrick, Brian Carey, Eanna Burns; Noel Purcell, Seadna Morey (0-3fs), Kevin Lynch (Capt); Pa Sheehan (0-1), Cathal O'Connor; Evan McInerney, Alex Morey (0-6; 0-2fs), Conor Deasy; Alan Mulready (1-1), Darragh Fitzgerald, Sean Lynch (0-2). Senior
After three rounds of the Clare Cup our senior team are still without a win after suffering a 4-14 to 1-08 defeat at the hands of Éire Óg last Saturday. The 'Bridge were without a number of regulars on the day which gave a chance for others to stake a claim for a starting berth but it proved to be an afternoon to forget in Ennis. The home team were 3-09 to 0-03 ahead at the break and never relinquished this commanding lead with Kevin Lynch netting for the visitors.

Junior B

Later on Saturday evening at O'Garney Park the Junior B's beat neighbours O'Callaghan's Mills, a Junior A team, in the division 4 league by 4-09 to 1-09. Paul Corbett notched a hat trick in the opening half to supplement the 3-6 to 1-04 lead at the break and Sean Lynch raised another green flag in the second period.

Intermediate
Parteen were the opposition on Sunday afternoon in O'Garney Park with little expected to be between the teams. Two first half goals courtesy of David O'Connor and Paul Corbett laid the foundations for a 2-09 to 0-04 lead at the short whistle. This healthy advantage proved vital as despite a spirited Parteen come back the second string 'Bridge held on for the victory

They will be taking on Clonbony in round two on the 12th May with The Banner and St. Senan's Kilkee the other teams in the inaugural division six league.
