Our U14 girls met Gowna in Kilnaleck last Monday in the U14 Girls Div 2 final. It was a very hot and humid day and the pitch was in perfect condition for football. The girls came on a Gowna team that have the current county midfield partnership in the middle of the park. The first few minutes showed some nerves with both teams kicking wide of the mark. However our girls started to play some good football and began to find their range. The first half was end to end stuff with Gowna hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions. But with some excellent defending and clinical finishing the girls went into the break 5-07 to 1-03 to the good.

Gowna started the second half strongly and used their strength to try to get into the game again with some furious defending and a couple of excellent saves from Suin Smith we were able to keep Gowna out. At the other end of the pitch our forwards took their chances to keep the score board ticking over. The hot humid conditions started to take its toll on both teams but the intensity didn't stop until the final whistle were our girls ran our 10-11 : 4-08 winners. It was a well-deserved win  were teamwork, excellent defending and clinical finishing won the day.

Well do the team and to the coaches Michael McCann and Tom Hannon.
