Who will succeed Tommy Carr?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

After Carr's resignation its time to look forward, and bring in the right man for Cavan. Who would fit the bill? Is there anyone local, with a good inside knowledge of Cavan football, who would be willing to take the role? Or should we look outside the county for someone with a proven track record? Personally I think Paidi o Shea or Pete Mc Grath would do nicely.

Nobody high Profile would want to come to a county like this, so I would rule out Low!

mcgeeney class??we saw what he did with grimley (two quarter finals) and what hes doin without grimley (strugglin to beat poor teams)
kernan,we saw what he did with grimley (won an AI),and now kernan has narrowly beaten NY,lost to sligo and lost to wexford
we'll see next weekend what grimley can do with monaghan.
was grimley not involved with cavan when they got promoted to div 2??
grimley is a genius, and doesnt seem to get near enough credit.

I am not on to make a suggestion as to who the new manager should be rather to suggest that given where the County finds itself that the Chairman of the County Board should go out and headhunt a manager as happened here in Kildare when the form Chairman brought McGeeney in. It is going to take major selling, given the record over the past 5 years, to attract a top man to come in. We cannot hope for a top guy to apply for the job because in my opinion they just won't. The chairman has got to go out and find the right person who he thinks is right for the job, convince him to come and give him all the back up and support he needs to do the job.

In relation to yesterday, the final score was a humiliation an absolute humiliation! What was worse however, was that it was one of the predicted outcomes on this site. The one consulation I have is that not one member of this years under 21 team started as a result like that is enough to end careers!

once it is not Terry Hyland i dont care who gets it cause Cavan are useless and will be for yrs to come, no manager will want the job cause the players are just not there.

BeerBaron with myself and rexbanner (on his return from down under) as his very able and astute assistants.

I agree whole heartedly with nmel. Once it is NOT Hyland. Hes too old school, and his tactics against donegal with the u21s were all wrong. It may be too soon for graham to step in, he is a good manager, he gives the right attitude to players, the u21 role would be ideal for him at the minute to develop his minor teams further. Bear in mind, these are only suggestions. I dont think an outsider would fully grasp the passion and urgency for progress we possess, so a local with loads of passion, tactical awareness and coaching badges is needed for the time being.

id like to see liam bradley or charlie mulgrew if they go for an outsider again, we need a no nonsense approach, no whinging no more excuses, we need more grit and aggression, although our main problem is that we dont have enough big men, ciaran brady would be a decent shout if a cavan man is to be selected

Cavan need a manager to come who has tasted success in the big time over the last ten years, mickey graham yet not a bad guy but yet to proove himself with the county minors, stephen king great player maybe ok for a selector but not a manager, terry hyland not good enough for the highest level, hard to know who would want the job it will take someone with a lot of passion and pride, bernard morris might not be bad for the selection team. In all fairness Cavan have not done much on the club scene as well as the county as of late so it will probably take an outsider from a more prolific county to LEAD the breffni county.
The whole GAA scene in Cavan is a mess from the coaching officers to the so called coaches in the local schools. Need a whole revamp not just a new manager, Nicholas walsh has yet to do it in the Cavan jersey and has not won anything with Cavan and I don't know how the county board can justify having him in his position.
