The Gaels really need a good test in Cavan

Cavan Gaels really need a good test in Cavan if we have any hope of advancement in the Ulster Club championship.
The Gaels have a very weak record in Ulster and while it can be attributed to the players I feel that the fact that the Gaels have won a lot of Championships over the last year
While it is commendable that lacken put in a sterling performance on Friday night I feel that nothing short of 100% will see Lacken progress

Say what you like about the Gaels but this team has done Cavan Town and indeed we are spoken about all over Ulster in relation to our success within Cavan over the past 12 years
It did not come easy and within Cavan Town you have a lot of detractors (ie anti Cavan Gaels) but the sterling service provided by a few ( and indeed one family in particular) has kept the Gaels at the top.
It may be preferable that another team would now rise to the Gaels level and that Team in my opinion will come from East Cavan in the very near future as a lot of work in being put in by coaches in east Cavan

yes tom the talk of ulster for a club so called steeped with success have facilities near the worst in Cavan. The gaels success in Cavan came about from poaching quality players from other clubs who shall remain nameless. The gaels have won nothing tom when they go on and win an All Ireland senior club title then you can talk about them in the same breath as the teams that have gone on and done it more on a regular basis.
You mention one family I assume the Reilly's yes they have done a lot at ground level for a club that should be the fear of every senior team in the country but I am not sure there is one club that fears them even in Cavan say's a lot don't you think.

Mowbar.what would you prefer ? 12 Senior championships or a state of the art gaa ground ? I would easily say everyone on here would prefer 12 senior championships.Cavan Gaels have being the most successful club in Cavan the last 15 years.they deserve respect.there is not one club in cavan who can rival them in what they have achieved in modern day football.

Oh PS ; new state of the art 2 story clubhouse is being built at present.and i believe they are also moving all their training out of terry coyle to a new sport campus funded by their members in cavan town. Not bad eh !!!!

It would have made more sense to build the state of the art 2 storey clubhouse in the same location as the new sports campus that the members are funding? Will they now have to finance two buildings 1) clubhouse with changing facilities and 2) changing rooms at the sports campus? Must have plenty of money to spend after they pay their manager, They did not also get a sports capital grant of 100k +?

Evano11 I have to disagree with you in relation to the funding which you allege.
We in the Gaels club have a wonderful committee for fundraising .
In relation to the allegation of player poaching I can say that if the Gaels took all the players that are seeking to come to us from neighbouring clubs that Terry Coyle park would not hold them.
We have a policy that no local club should loose any player by transferring to the Gaels, then again that policy is easy to implement as very few local players would take a place on the Gaels first team anyway .
Gaelstud
I feel that on this occasion I have to agree with you that 12 Senior Championships is preferable to a big club= house.

Are they getting that off the likes of Killygarry and Drumalee, like where they get a lot of their players?

I would say the Gaels would give away their 12 wins in Cavan if they could just win a game in the Ulster Club Championchip...! Out of those 12 wins thwir record in Ulster is nothing short of embarrising.... I'd say the rest of Ulster is talking about them alright...more like laughing... Maybe the man who done such great things for Fermanagh will buck the hopeless trend..he is costing enough...!!!!

The Gaels are real underachievers. They have never given the Ulster championship a good rattle. Maybe with their 100k manager this year they will do the business.

I have to say that the Gaels are and have been a credit to Cavan football for a long number of years and indeed it is not a poor reflection on the Gaels the fact that the do not progress in Ulster. Rather is it a poor reflection on the competition that the great Gaels team have to play against internally in Cavan. So please let us have more/better competition as most of the Gaels fellows have known nothing but success

Cavan club football is woefull so therefore Cavan Gaels are woefull....it should not be too hard for you to work that one out Tom...?

Everybody knows the Gaels have been the best team in Cavan for a long time now but everybody also knows that this does not count for very much as is proven year after year when the Gaels step in to Ulster. The Gaels have a huge pool of players due to the fantastic work done by the Reilly bros over many years. The closest Cavan club to winning an Ulster club championship over the past 40 years is Bailieborough Shamrocks who are now a very poor intermediate outfit. The Kingscourt and Gowna teams also fell short in Ulster but none have fallen so short as the Gaels who really lacked the midfielders and all round size when physicality was required.

I actually think Kingscourt got to 2 ulster finals and were narrowly beaten in 1 of them. So they probably came as close as bailieborough.

This is nonsense the gaels haven't won the championship in three years and were talking about them needing to be tested for ulster.
The gaels won't win ulster they might not even win cavan. They on the decline not bringing the quality players through they used to.
Sure they are joined up with kilagarry for minor unimagineable a few years ago.
