The Late Paddy McMahon There was genuine regret in the area at the death on Sunday 26th June of Paddy McMahon, Main Street, Kingscourt, at the residence of his daughter, Cait, Navan, Co. Meath. In his 84th year he was the last of his family. He worked with Kingscourt Brick Yard for 24 years and for 27 years in Gypsum Industries. He was actively involved in the local community, in the late forties with his late brother Johnny and sisters Molly, Rosie, Kathleen and Theresa. They took part in the local pantomime in St Mary's Hall. He was a past member of the C.Y.M.S. club in St Mary's Hall and played football with Kingscourt Stars in those early years in Kearney's Field on the Kells Road. He gave a lot of his time to the local handball club an seen it develop into what is now one of the finest handball clubs in the country. He was a member of the Kingscourt Fire Brigade Service for 36 years, with its famous Barrow Brigade in the early years, he was later to take control of a modern Fire Brigade Service as Station Officer. He was also a Peace Commissioner and was also in the Civil Defence. He was a past member of the L.D.F. and used his skills as a drilling instructor in the early seventies with members of Kingscourt Brass and Reed Band in their preparation for Parades in Dublin, London and other venues. He was a keen gardener and a visit to the local taverns at the end of the day for a pint and craic with the locals was one of his enjoyment. He enjoyed life and was very proud of the town of Kingscourt and followed the fortunes of the local football teams down the years. A deeply religious person he visited Lourdes on many occasions. There was a large and representative attendance at the removal and funeral which followed Requiem Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception to adjoining Cemetery. Member of the County Cavan Fire Brigade along with handball club members formed a guard of honour at the removal. The Requiem Mass was con-celebrated. The chief Celebrant was Rev.
