Killygarry County Champions

July 29, 2015

The Killygarry under 13 girls are Cavan County Division 1 champions for 2015. What an achievement and the style of their performance in the final was a breath of fresh air. The Crubany girls were unstoppable on Thursday last in Lavey before a very impressivecrowd. From the off, Castlerahan / Denn didn't know what hit them. The winners raced into an early lead and clocked up the scores showing great skill and ability. Their opponents who boasted an All-Ireland under 14 winner in their ranks had no answer to the onslaught exerted. Half time 3.5 to no score.

The second half was a half for the forwards with Ally Cahill, Aisling Walls, Cara Thompson and Aoife Lovett on fire. Faith Galligan grabbed a hatrick of goals and proved a menace throughout.  Midfield with Amy Galligan and Emer Cahill were on top throughout, working tirelessly up and down the pitch. The defence with a half back line that work tirelessly and are so determined were on top from the beginning. Maria Lovett in the centre was outstanding and had unbelievable assistance from Grainne Cahill, Kaioni Tuipilatou and Clodagh Kennedy. The fullback line of Annabel Fitzpatrick and Ava Sheils had their best game of 2015 and were a rock throughout. The Killygarry keeper Joanne Reilly was on top of her game, her kickouts and general play giving a great foundation to this excellent team. As the game wore on, the bench was emptied, but no change in performance was noted. The introductions of Mollie O'Meara, Grace Smith, Deirbhle Lynch, Aoibheann Morrison and Deirbhle Brady enhanced the overall performance and gives great hope for next year. The scores continued and a final result of 7.15 to 1.2 was recorded. Considering there was only 5 points between the teams two weeks ago, this was some result. Hard Luck to the Castlerahan / Denn girls who will learn from this experience and emerge stronger next year.  There is no doubt the girls will remember this evening for a long time. There was great scenes of celebration when Aoife Lovett and Amy Galligan lifted the cup. Well done to all, hopefully this is the start of something big for this group and the club in general.

The winning squad for the 2015 league was Joanne Reilly, Molly O'Meara, Shauna Gilsenan, Maeve Young, Deirbhle Brady, Aoibheann Morrisson, Amy Galligan, Aoife Lovett, Claudia Burke, Emer Cahill, Annabel Fitzpatrick, Ava Sheils, Aisling Walls, Ally Cahill, Grainne Cahill, Faith Galligan, Clodagh Kennedy, Maria Lovett, Grace Smith, Deirbhle Lynch, Kaioni Tuipilatou, Alex Brady, and Cara Thompson
