Cavan 0-17 Cork 4-4

Cavan scored two late points to snatch the All-Ireland U14 'A' girls' football title from Cork's grasp in Banagher, Co. Offaly this afternoon.

It was a famous victory for the Breffni girls whose All-Ireland dream looked to have died when they suffered an extra-time defeat to Galway in the semi-final, only for them to be reinstated after it emerged that the Westerners had fielded an unregistered player.

A first half hat-trick of goals from captain Katie Quirke had pre-match favourites Cork perched on a 3-3 to 0-8 half-time lead. However, the scoreline would have been very different if Cavan's Sarah Curran hadn't a penalty saved by Cork 'keeper Sarah Murphy, while Erin Longair was also unlucky not to find the net for the winners.

The Rebelettes suffered a big blow 12 minutes into the second half when their midfielder Aine Keating was sin-binned. Aine Reilly quickly brought a resurgent Cavan level before Deirbhile Caffrey edged them in front.

Cork looked to have wrestled back control when Quirke's equalising point was immediately followed by a fourth goal from sub Aoife Twomey. But the Ulster outfit stuck to their task as scores from Sarah Curran and Leah Brady narrowed the gap before they secured a dramatic victory right at the death.
