Win for Under 14 girls

April 27, 2015

St Aidan's Gaa Templeport and their officers rolled out the hospitality in style as they welcomed the teams from Donegal and Cavan who contested round 2 of the u14 championship.

The support of ladies football by this small rural club epitomises the very positive growth and popularity of our game and the large following of supporters from both counties were treated to a veritable feast of ladies football.

Right from the start the Breffni ladies laid out their stall with a rasper of a goal in the top right corner of the Donegal net and was followed by a succession of well taken points from play.

The intensity and frenetic play of the opening 15 mins dessipated allowing a return to game plans on both sides resulting in a number of free flowing movements which alternated from one end of the field to the other as each side battled for supremacy.Lauren Mc Veety controlled the half back line laying off to the pacey Aine Corcoran who set up play after play.

Management barked out the orders and patrolled the tram lines with fervent enthusiasm , but they need not have worried as the very diminutive figure of Emma Halton was mastering her wing like a well seasoned pro.

Attack after attack was thwarted on both sides as the tempo of the game was elevated in the second half.

Orders resonated around the arena and the spectators applauded the efforts of the 30 young ladies on the field ,those who started and those who finished.

Kayla Brady was on top form as she instigated drive out after drive out from the back line and was well supported by Muireann Smith

Referee Gary Gormley Tyrone blew the final whistle to herald a resounding win for Mick's Breffni Girls as they won on a score line of 5-12 to 2-5.

The energy ,confidence and invincibility of our youngest county team was remarkable and today we saw a team play as a team .No individuals determined the game but a team of well tutored players triumphed.

The wily old codger Mick coyly smiled and winked as he was surrounded by his delighted brood and his management of David, Tom, Eamonn , Maureen and Vanessa must be commended for their dedication to the girls as they now look forward to contesting their next game
