O'Reilly says he acted alone on red card decision

Kingscourt's Padraic Faulkner

Mullahoran referee Oliver Og O'Reilly said the decision to send off Kingscourt's Padraig Faulkner in this month's Cavan SFC final against Cavan Gaels was his and his alone.

Many felt that O'Reilly had acted on advice from linesman Joe McQuillan after Faulkner's clash with Gaels defender Levi Murphy in the 12th minute of the decider, but the official since told The Anglo-Celt newspaper otherwise, outlining that it was solely his decision.

"It was completely my decision, when I spoke to the linesman, I just told him I was going to show him a straight red card," O'Reilly told the Anglo Celt.

"I had my mind made up at that point and I stand over the decision."

Many Kingscourt supporters were enraged by the decision, as they went on to lose on a narrow 0-16 to 0-15 margin, while it is believed that Murphy has no memory of the match whatsoever after the collision with the Stars' centre-back.
