Bailieborough Shamrocks Club Notes

May 10, 2012
Seniors
The senior team had a home game with second place Kildallon on Saturday evening last
which proved to be their most difficult encounter in the league to date. The visitors were determined to test the mettle of the home team from the start and scored first. They applied considerable pressure on the Bailieborough defence which was on the back foot for most of the first half. The Shamrocks did manage to settle the pace of the game with a goal from Niall Kelly following good work from Michael Argue. However a momentary lapse in defence led to the concession of a soft goal just on the stroke of half time to give the visitors a one point lead at half time. In the second half the Shamrocks midfield gained control which took the pressure off the defence and gave the forwards a chance to improve the score. Gradually over the half they achieved supremacy and led by 4 points with 5 minutes remaining. Kildallon still had a couple of stings in the tail and the last few minutes of the game were nervy for the Shamrocks. However they held out and won by 1-12 to 1- 9 in what was an entertaining and indeed a very sporting game.

The Reserve Division 2 team had a home victory over neighbours Knockbride on Friday evening last. In a very entertaining game the Shamrocks put on a late rally to win by 2-12 to 2- 8.

Under 16s
The under 16s played Castlerahan in the quarter final of the league on Thursday evening.
Played in dull damp weather conditions the game never really sparked. The stronger team on the night, Bailieborough asserted themselves at crucial stages in the game to edge out the home side. The Shamrocks led by 5 points at half time and pressed home their advantage early in the second half with a goal from Brendan Argue who was lively throughout. Castlerahan rallied and following a period of pressure scored 2 goals to give themselves some hope. However Bailieborough raised their game and added on a number of points to run out winners by 1-15 to 2-5.

Under 14s

The under 14s beat Drumlane by 6-14 to 5- 12 in a very entertaining game on Thursday evening in St Anne's Park. This result means that they have qualified for the semi final of the league. They have one league fixture to fulfil at home to table toppers Laragh United.

Under 12s
The under 12 team won a very entertaining game against Knockbride in the Spring league last week and had an enjoyable day in the Under 12 blitz in Kingspan Breffni Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Camogie
The senior camogie team played their third game of the league on Sunday morning in the Park against a strong Laragh side. The teams were level at half time, following some good scores from Maria Dolan, Elisha McKeon and Olivia Hynes. However Laragh began to edge ahead after half time, mainly through the accuracy of Jenny O'Rourke from frees. The Shamrocks continued to battle hard but Laragh ran out deserving five point winners.
