Time against Johnston

Seanie Johnston and Kieran McGeeney
Seanie Johnston will need his transfer to go through within the next eight days if he is to feature for Kildare in this year's championship.

The former Cavan star's latest transfer application is currently with the new Central Competitions Control Committee who are expected to consider the matter further tonight but aren't expected to make a decision.

Under the new rule passed at last month's Congress, a player who wishes to move to another county must first play championship for his new club. In Johnston's case, he must first play for St. Kevin's, who he has been seeking to transfer to from his home club Cavan Gaels since the start of the year, before he can play for the Lilywhites.

And with only one round of the Kildare SFC due to be played before Kieran McGeeney's men face Offaly in the Leinster SFC quarter-final on June 17 - St. Kevin's are down to meet St. Mary's, Leixlip on Saturday week - time is running out for the want-away attacker.

Asked would the Kildare county board consider rescheduling the game, Kildare secretary Kathleen O'Neill told the Irish Times that such a move was highly unlikely.

"I wouldn't think there'll be any moving the fixture," she said.

"That weekend has been designated for clubs and no one's looking for any changes. We're bound by the rule and it's out of our hands. There's a new committee in Croke Park dealing with the matter and we'll have to wait for their decision."
