A special service

When people plan a weekend getaway or midweek break, some look for a relaxing, tranquil time in a peaceful setting, while others seek a more energetic stay. Finding a place that delivers all these options can be quite difficult, but there is such a place in Co Cavan.

Situated just 3km from Cavan town, The Radisson Blu Farnham Estate Hotel without question provides all the above and through its setting on 1300 acres, guests can avail of a wide number of services.
For this year's edition of the Breffni Blue Yearbook, we profile this famous old estate and speak to Sales Manager Patsy Mooney about the success of this 4* premises.

General Manager Philip Murray has brought his considerable knowledge to the resort, while Executive Chef Michael Casey has ensured the taste buds are satisfied through every meal down to the delicious home made desserts.
One of the biggest selling points of the Hotel is its comprehensive Spa that offers the customers a wide range of relaxation techniques throughout its 19 treatment rooms.

"At Farnham Estate Health Spa, we offer the power of possibility to our visitors. Combining an accessible and fulfilling approach, we guide guests towards making gradual lifestyle adjustments, giving them insights into how to gain optimum health and enjoyment of life," said Patsy.

"The ethos of our Health Spa is to seduce people into good health with practical and effective ways, to teach as well as treat. Rather than simply accepting the conventional and mediocre definition of "health" as being the "absence of disease", we teach that the real value of health is in the body allowing the individual to derive the maximum enjoyment out of life. The programmes at our Health Spa are designed to achieve this in an accessible and fulfilling way.

"In addition to beauty and pampering programmes, we can assist guests "take a little away": whether that be through diet and nutrition advice, learning how to relax or easing into a new fitness routine. Our advice can be easily transported to every day life to assist long lasting and increased happiness."

Consisting of the many treatment rooms, gym, indoor and outdoor pool, the health spa really covers every aspect of health and fitness as well as relaxation, while there is also a restaurant located on the premises, catering solely for users of the health spa.
This year saw the Farnham Estate Health Spa named the Irish Tatler Best Hotel Spa Award for 2011, which is a prestigious award to say the least.

"It was a great honour to win the award and it is credit to all involved in the Spa that make it such a success. To be named the best in the country is always something special."
With 7km of walkways situated on the estate, guests can wander through the picturesque settings and breathe in the fresh Cavan air.

"Our unrivalled peaceful and beautiful natural country estate with its ancient woodland, unspoilt lakes, unique leisure facilities and experienced team - this really is a perfect environment for the pleasure of self-discovery."
The Radisson Blu can also offer guests the opportunity for a round of golf on their newly designed 18-hole course, designed by Jeff Howes.

"Our golf course is rated amongst the top 20 parkland courses in the country and we cater for all. A number of societies use the course and we have great deals for both day and residential societies."
The hotel itself has 158 rooms, 12 of which are suites. Eight of these are located in the old Farnham House and display the old features, while the other four have a more contemporary style.
"As part of any guests stay, we offer free access to the Spa's Indoor/Outdoor Pool and Thermal Suite. This is a unique selling point of ours as many hotels charge extra for this"

The hotel's Botanica Restaurant menu includes the finest of local, seasonal produce and is a sophisticated and creative celebration of the Irish botanical world. Overlooking Farnham lawn, the restaurant provides a beautiful setting for guests to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner.

"Within the restaurant is the Lemon Tree Room which is an ideal venue for family and group celebrations for up to 40 guests. With direct access to the courtyard, diners can enjoy sitting outdoors when the weather allows."
"We also offer a Sunday Buffet Lunch which is very popular among guests and indeed many locals would come in to avail of this. For just €24.00 pp, you can enjoy a sumptuous Sunday Buffet Lunch, what better way to spend Sunday afternoons? Pre booking is advisable though."

Located next to the Botanica Restaurant and within the hotel's wonderfully spacious lobby is the Botanica Bar. This is an ideal place to relax and unwind after checking in to the hotel or to have a spot of lunch, food served from 12 noon - 6pm.
"Underneath Farnham House is an array of underground tunnels which served as the kitchen and quarters for the Farnham House staff throughout the centuries. Today, one of these tunnels located underneath the hotel's reception area houses the Wine Goose Cellar Bar where guests and visitors alike can enjoy dinner or a drink, food served from 6pm - 10pm."
Of course weddings are a big part of any hotels business and on this front, the Radisson Blu Farnham Estate can rival any of them for cost, efficiency and that personal touch.

A wedding at Farnham is a marriage of style, luxury and flawless service. From the bouquet to the banquet, everything a bride and groom could wish for can be found right here.
"We are delighted to announce that we have extended our Winter Romance Package into April & October with menus from €45.00 pp and our All Inclusive Winter Wedding Package from €59.00 pp.

"Our dedicated wedding team headed by Emer Smith is on hand to deal with any enquiries and explain the finer details of the various packages that we have on offer."
The hotel is also a popular destination for Christmas Parties and they are having a Casino Night on Saturday, 17th December which includes a Mulled Wine Reception, 4 Course Meal, Casino with Blackjack, Roulette etc followed by DJ till late. All of this for only €45 pp

Patsy revealed that the hotel is almost booked up every weekend all year round, while their midweek trade is also very impressive and she admits that their special offer range has proven to be very popular.
"At the moment we have a wide range of deals on offer and some of these include our midweek special, which is two nights B&B plus one evening meal for €129 per person sharing.
"The Friday Fever package is one night stay, dinner and breakfast for €99 per person sharing. These are just a couple of the offers available."
