Silver Anniversary of the 1986 Championsip Teams
Drumgoon Eire Og will commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the first club championship winning year of 1986 with a special presentation to the then under 12 and under 14 double winning teams, less than five years after establishing the clubs underage programme. Familiar names like Jimmy O'Reilly, Philip McDermott, Barry O'Reilly, Liam McDermott, Sean Fox, Patrick McDonald and many will once again draw the limelight as the exploits of those landmark finals 25 years ago are recalled.
Minor Team back in training
With the Minor League just around the corner, the Drumgoon Minor and U16 squads are back in training, under the watchful eyes of Michael Fitzpatrick and Paddy Bates. The squad will contest Division 3 of the ACMFL in 2012, and with lots of local team involvement in this division, there is bound to be lots of interest.
Enquiries about training to Paddy or Michael or through the club secretary.
Seniors prepare for Division 1
With the club re-union reflecting on the achievements of 2011, the squad themselves are preparing for another season at the top level of club football in Cavan. Drumgoon will host fellow promoted club, Drumalee on the week-end of 11th/12th February, as the Division 2 Champions take on the Intermediate Champions, in a fitting start to their new Division 1 status.
Aidan Quigley and Thomas McDonald, supported by Aidan Brazil will oversee their charges again in 2012 in a bid to consolidate Division 1 status and senior championship football for the parish.
Special thanks are extended to Maudabawn Co-operative for their continued sponsorship of our senior teams.
Cavan U21 retain the Hastings Cup
It's still only January, but the Cavan underage bandwagon continues to roll as the U21 squad progressed unbeaten to retain the Hasting Cup at the expense of Longford on Saturday last…but not without a challenge.
Cavan overcame their neighbours on a comfortable score-line of 2:15 to 2:10, but were pushed to extra-time, and needed a saving point at the end of normal time to ensure the draw, as Longford looked to 'steal' the title with a late goal.
Drumgoon were represented by Conor Moynagh, returning from injury to make a positive impact when taking to the field in the second half and driving Cavan on to another promising victory.
Ulster Vocational Schools Final
The Cavan Vocational Schools squad will look to build on the success of the Cavan Minors in 2011 when they take to the field to contest the Ulster Final on Wednesday 1st February against Donegal.
Drumgoon will be represented on the squad through St Aidans students Patrick Smith, Ryan Craddock and Dominic Donegan.
