East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club Notes

January 23, 2012
We had a great response to our registration night last Friday evening. Anyone who has not already registered can do so again this coming Friday from 7pm. Players must be registered with ECG Hurling to play in 2012, €10 for the year. Our friends at Bailieborough Shamrocks CLG have invited us to use their facilities later in the year when the weather improves which will be an additional boost to hurling in the area and we are thankful to them for the invitation. We have already had the use of both Killinkere and Kingscourt Stars grounds in recent times which shows the goodwill towards hurling from the GAA community in the area. Any Shamrocks players wishing to play hurling please contact Padraig Farrelly, Shamrocks Juvenile Secretary, and he will point you in the right direction.

Under 8/10;
With a lot of new players registered last week the hall was very full with over 30 eager hurlers taking part. With the numbers we now have we will split into two separate groups under 8 and under 10. Under 8s train from 6-7 and under 10s from 7-8 both on Friday in the Community School Sports Hall, Bailieborough. €2 each for the hire of the hall please and also bring a bottle of water to keep hydrated during training. We are looking at having our first games around mid February and with the numbers continuing to grow we know we will have very competitive hurling teams at under 8 and under 10 this year. If any more of our parents wish to act as both coaches and mentors for the coming year then please contact Willie and Cyril at training any Friday.

Under 12/14;
The lads had a great workout at the Vale last Sunday. This is a great facility to help with hurling development. Preparations continue apace for the Feile competition in February. New players for this group always welcome. Drop down to the Vale pitch any Sunday from 12-1pm. €2 each plus water for hydration please.

Kingscourt;
We are still waiting on the Community Centre to become available. When it does we will return hurling. All are welcome at Bailieborough on Fridays. We will register players once they get playing.

East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club was formed in July 2009 by a committed group of adults with a strong interest in the game and its development to cater for the hurling needs of the area including Bailieborough, Kingscourt, Shercock, Killinkere and Knockbride. From having the initial under 8/10 sides, with just a dozen or so players, we now cater for ages up to 14 with numbers up to 50+ players. We have coaches from each of the areas above on our coaching team and our plan is to grow the club until we cater for all age groups for hurling. Kingscourt Stars, Bailieborough Shamrocks and Killinkere have all made their facilities available for hurling development and training now takes place regularly in each of these clubs. We have an open door policy where anyone with an interest in the game whether as a player or mentor/coach is welcome to attend any of our sessions.
