Ladies football: Dubs book final spot

August 29, 2010
Last year's beaten finalists Dublin are back in the All-Ireland ladies senior football final after edging out Laois by 1-8 to 0-9 in a hard-fought semi-final at Dr Cullen Park last night.

The Jackies, who suffered a heartbreaking loss to Cork last year, will now meet Kerry or Tyrone in the Croke Park decider on September 26. Dublin had already beaten Joe Higgins' Laois side in this year's Leinster final, but had to pull out all the stops to overcome their Leinster rivals on this occasion.

The O'Moore County girls looked set for victory until Lydnsey Davey struck for the only goal with seven minutes remaining to give the Jackies a 1-6 to 0-8 lead and they held on for the win after that. Laois had led by 0-4 to 0-2 at the interval.

In the curtain-raiser at Dr Cullen Park, an Elaine Power-inspired Waterford secured their place in the All-Ireland intermediate final courtesy of a 1-14 to 0-10 victory over Cavan.

Meanwhile, Louth and last year's runners-up Limerick will contest the All-Ireland junior decider following their victories over Derry and Wexford respectively. Louth defeated Derry by 3-10 to 2-10, while Limerick were 1-12 to 0-8 winners over Wexford.
