Cavan board confident of appointing duo

Val Andrews and Terry Hyland
Cavan county board secretary Liam McCabe says he is confident that clubs will ratify Val Andrews and Terry Hyland as the new management of the senior football team.
Andrews and Hyland received unanimous backing at Monday night's management committee meeting which is expected to see their appointment by the clubs at tomorrow night's meeting in the Hotel Kilmore.
"Judging by the meeting on Monday and the feedback we got since, I'd be very confident they'll be appointed," McCabe revealed to the Irish Examiner.
"There was a lot of clubs represented on the management committee and it was a unanimous decision. We'd be very keen to sort it out tomorrow night."
Following Tommy Carr's decision to step-down from his post last month, calls for a local candidate and an outside influence were split in the county and McCabe believes that the pair will offer the right balance as they move towards their second stint in charge, with the previous taking place from 1998 to 2001.
"There was a feeling from people that we should look locally while others wanted someone from the outside. I think this gets the right balance, Val is delighted with it and he would still be very aware of the Cavan local scene. Terry had an excellent record this year with the two county teams. I think they have unfinished business from their last time in charge," said the Belturbet man.
McCabe also rubbished claims that former Dublin boss Paul Caffrey had been contacted over the position and feels that the nominated duo are coming in at the right time, with the local county championship set to resume at the quarter-final stages this weekend.
He stated: "We're getting the lads in at the right time before the club championships are finished. We were obviously disappointed this year, losing out so heavily to Cork but that's gone and we're looking forward. They're both very keen to get started.
