Castletara U-13's win Roinn A Final
There was huge excitement in Ballyhaise and surrounding areas last Thursday night, August 12th, when our U-13 team won the Roinn A Final against Castlerahan in Cootehill. The game started in a flurry of excitement and soon Castletara took an early lead through a goal from Ryan McCrudden followed quickly by a point from Aodhagan Watters. Castlerahan responded with two quick goals, the second coming from a penalty. Castletara regained the lead when Fabien Moore got on the end of a good passing movement to bury the ball in the corner of the net but on the stroke of half time Castletara were rocked by a third goal from Castlerahan.
On the resumption of the game after half time, Castletara began to establish superiority in the mid field area and regained the lead by scoring 3 quick points from David Brady. However in a subsequent attack this was cancelled out by a Castlerahan goal. Castletara regained the lead when Ryan McCrudden fisted a high ball from the edge of the square over the goalkeepers head and into the back of the net. With ten minutes remaining Castlerahan scored their fifth goal after some hesitancy in the Castletara defence. The turning point in the game came with eight minutes left when David Brady dispossessed a Castlerahan defender and shot to the net. This was followed up with points from Fabien Moore and Adam Masterson. Castletara scored two late goals through David Brady and substitute Michael Brady.
At the final whistle there were scenes of jubilation among players and supporters alike as Castletara had created club history by winning the U-13 Roinn A title for the first time on a scoreline of 7-6 to 5-00. After the game presentation of the cup was made by Brian Seagrave, Chairman of Bord Peil na nOg to joint Captains of the winning Castletara side, Adam Masterson and Shane Rooney.

Paul Brady Concert
The All Ireland Fleadh has finally arrived in Cavan and the excitement is building towards one of the main events - the appearance of Paul Brady in the Equestrian Centre on Friday night next. Ballyhaise GFC is, along with Cavan County Council, hosting the concert and they are asking for a big effort from all club members and parishioners to sell tickets and support the event this week. In order to make the concert financially viable a lot of seats need to be sold. Each household in the parish is asked to buy two tickets and if possible to sell another four. It promises to be a great night and a major social occasion for the club and the parish so everyone is encouraged to attend and to make a big effort to sell tickets to friends and acquaintances.
Paul Brady and will have special guests accompanying him and he will be performing both his traditional and rock collection on the night. A high quality sound and lighting system will be in place guaranteeing top concert conditions.
Tickets are available from the committee, from Multisound in Cavan or from Ticketmaster online or at outlets nationwide.
The club have prepared an e-mail advertising the event and they are hoping that all parishioners will forward this to their e-mail contacts. To receive the promotional materials please send your e-mail address to
[email protected]. The e-mail will be returned to you and you can send it out to all your family and friends.
Minors
The minor team had a fine win over Gowna St. Mel's (Gowna/Mullahoran) in the first round of the Division One Minor Championship on Wednesday night last. Trailing by one point at half time, 0-4 to 0-5, Ballyhaise produced a fantastic performance in the second half to outscore the favourites in that period 2-7 to 0-2. The defence were rock solid, as they have been all year, the midfield dominant and the forwards in top form to register an impressive win for the men in Green and Gold. Next up is the major challenge of league champions and championship favourites Cavan Gaels in the semi-final on Wednesday, August 25th. The venue has yet to be arranged. Ballyhaise will need to replicate last Wednesday's second half performance over the sixty minutes if they are to overcome a strong town team and get back into the final for the second year in a row.
Seniors
Unfortunately the senior team encountered more bad luck on Saturday evening in Cootehill when a late goal by Knockbride denied them a place in the League Division Two final. The final score was Knockbride 2-13 Ballyhaise 1-14. Commiserations once again to the team and management and thanks for all the hard work and effort put in this year which culminated in a very important and deserved promotion to Division One.
Reserves
The Division Two reserve side drew their league semi-final with Bailieborough on Saturday at the same venue. The final score was Ballyhaise 2-9 Bailieborough 1-12
