McGrath tipped for Cavan post

Down's Pete McGrath
Pete McGrath is being linked with the Cavan football manager's position, which was vacated by Tommy Carr last week.

The Irish Daily Mirror reports that McGrath, who led his native Down to Sam Maguire Cup wins in 1991 and '94, and later managed the Irish International Rules team, is interested in a return to inter-county management.

He managed the Down under 21s to the brink of an All-Ireland success last year, but was disappointed to be overlooked for the senior post which went to his former star player James McCartan instead.

It's believed McGrath turned down the chance to manage Louth this year, but is now interested in the Cavan vacancy.
