Sheridan delighted to be part of Ulster setup

October 01, 2008
Earlier this week, Cavan hurler Paul Sheridan received a call-up for training with the Ulster squad for the M Donnelly inter-provincial series. It is the Mullahoran native's second successive year of being drafted into the northern province's squad for training and has admitted that it's a 'nice achievement' to be involved with the setup. "I found out a couple of days ago," said Sheridan. "I have to finalise things, I'm not sure when the first session is because it's hard to get a definite night due to players' club commitments. We played Connacht up in Ballybofey last year, I was a sub that night but it was nice to be there and be part of the panel. It's a nice achievement for a Cavan man to be in the same dressing room as the best players in Ulster." After helping his club side, Mullahoran St Joseph's, retain their county senior title at the weekend with an emphatic 25-point win over Ballymachugh, Sheridan is hoping that his experience in training with the squad, which is due to take place on October 8, 15 and 22, can help him improve on his game. "It's a bit of a change from playing in the Cavan league or whatever, it's a big step up," admits Sheridan. "Playing with hurlers of that kind of quality, your game has to improve really. It takes a while to get settles because you're kind of in awe for the first while but when you get used to it, they kind of bring you in to the game and bring you up to their standard. "The first touch and speed on the ball is the main thing, there is a big difference in the top hurlers in Ulster and the likes of Cavan and Monaghan so that's the areas you're aiming to improve."
