Cavan SFC: Denn reach first senior final

September 29, 2008
Denn 0-8 Killygarry 0-6 Denn edged into their first ever Cavan Senior Football Championship final on Sunday when they defeated a wasteful Killygarry by two points at Kingspan Breffni Park to book a meeting with county champions Cavan Gaels. It was Killygarry who had played all the football in the opening half-hour, but were made to rue a missed penalty by Martin Reilly, who sent his spot-kick wide of the post, before his side would take in a 0-5 to 0-1 lead at the break, that could have been more had they not sent seen three chances come off the upright and send six others (along with the penalty) the wrong side of the post. In contrast, Denn took the first four opportunities that fell their way very early in the restart, with county defender Martin Cahill leveling the game at 0-5 apiece on 38 minutes. After full-forward Hubert Smith had put Denn into the lead two minutes later the Crosskeys side never looked back. Seven more wides typified Killygarry's afternoon as a Martin Reilly point proved their only score of the second-half, allowing their opportunist counterparts to point their way towards a first senior final meeting where they will be up against it in Cavan Gaels on October 19 at Kingspan Breffni Park.
