Ladies Football Arva 3-9 St Finbars 3-8 The Arva/Killeshandra team took the road to Drumlane on Saturday to try and claim the Division 3 title and capture the league and championship double. St Finbars were waiting and started the match much stronger. The Arva girls seems to be caught napping in the first few minutes of the game allowing St Finbars to take a goal and 2 points in the opening moments. Arva woke up at this stage and started to pick off some great points >from play and Ruth Mulligan then took control of things and scored a great solo goal for Arva, carrying the ball in from the 40 and leaving the St Finbars defence with no chance.¬? Some great work by the St Finbars goalkeeper kept them in the game during the first half as the deadly forward combination of Emma Connolly and Catherine Dolan were creating some great chances. Although St Finbars got another goal in this half, Arva continued to pick of their points and the teams went in at half time with a score line of 2-4 to 1-06 in favour of St Finbars. The second half started with Arva showing why they are Junior champions, Half back Donna English & Natasha Daly fielded great ball and made some great runs from the half back line, and with Ruth & Lisa Mulligan working hard on the 40 along with Bronagh Fleming taking scores and delivering ball into the full forward line they were able to take control of the game and at one stage in the match were 7 points clear.¬? Although some may have thought the game was over at this stage St Finbars were not prepared to lie down and showed great determination in the late stages of the game to score a goal and 3 points in quick succession which led to an exciting finish with Arva just taking the match by 1 point.
