Death of a former Cavan great

September 19, 2008
The funeral of former Cavan footballing great Donal Meade took place last Monday morning at St Mary's Church, Cross to Raffoney cemetery. After attending College in Belfast, Meade, who played for both Cuchullains and Cavan, emerged as a very gifted footballer and played for his native county at senior level. While playing with the Breffni County during their league and Ulster Championship campaigns throughout the 1970's, he was cited as a player of real aptitude in midfield or attack. His death on Wednesday week last, September 10, was met with wide sorrow around the county, and particularly in the Cuchullains parish around Cross and Mullagh. A Guard of Honour was formed at his service, with many of his former Cuchullains and Cavan team-mates in attendance.
