Rooney, James

August 31, 2007
The Late James Rooney It was with deep sadness that his friends and neighbours heard of the death of James (Jim) Rooney, (suddenly) at his home in Kilcarry, Clonegal. Jim had been at Mass on the Saturday evening before and appeared to be in good form. He rang his daughter Bridge early on Sunday morning and told her that he felt unwell. She informed another Daughter and went to his home immediately. He opened the door for her, said a few words and collapsed on the floor. Jim was a keen sheep farmer and liked nothing better than tending his flock. He had spent several years working in the forestry, and in his younger days was a member of Clonegal GFC. He had the distinction of winning his first football medal in a juvenile schools tournament in 1926. He was born in a great year in Ireland's history, September 23, 1916. Jim was a good neighbour and often gave good advice to people who had trouble with animals. His wife Margaret (nee Kenny) died in June 1995. The remains were removed to St. Brigid's Church, Clonegal on Tuesday, August 21 and Interment took place, following Requiem Mass, in Clonegal Cemetery on Wednesday, August 22. Jim is survived by boys Mick and Pat and girls Minnie, Ciss, Bridge, and Ann; by his brother Mick and sisters Bridie, Diana and Katsy, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. May he rest in Peace. Courtesy of the Carlow Nationalist 31 August 2007
