Carlow lay Wexford low

April 29, 2007
A gritty second half comeback saw Carlow qualify for the ESB Leinster MFC quarter-final at the expense (2-9 to 1-7) of 14 man Wexford at Dr. Cullen Park. The Model County had been the stronger side in the first half and deservedly led by 1-4 to 0-5 at the interval before seeing the wheels come off the wagon. Richard Dunne's well-taken goal in the 28th minute for the visitors had rocked the Barrowsiders but the hosts made an excellent start to the second half with a converted free followed by a goal in the 33rd minute by Shane Redmond. Carlow went onto seal victory with a last minute goal from substitute Gordon Lowry. Wexford's cause was dealt a considerable blow when they had defender Sean O'Corcoran red-carded in the 48th minute for a late tackle on Carlow midfielder Brendan Murphy.
