The late Brian O'Boyle Former county footballer Brian O'Boyle died at the age of 60 in St. James' Hospital following a long battle with illness. Born in The Curragh where his late father Cmdt Daniel O'Boyle was based, Brian lived most of his life at his home in Highfield, Dublin Road, Carlow. He played minor and U-21 for the county and represented O'Hanrahan's at senior level. His brother Johnny in Australia won an All Ireland for Dublin in 1958. Brian worked for the Beet Hauliers Association for many years. He was also National Secretary for the Irish Road Haulage Association. Brian will be sadly missed by his wife Kay, children Grainne, Deirdre and Brian Jnr. He was known as a family man with a marvellous sense of humour: "A great man for the jokes even up to his death," said his family. Fr. Paul O'Boyle (nephew) officiated at the Requiem with Fr. Ahern, Fr. Cushen and classmate Fr. PJ McDonnell also in attendance. Brian is also survived by sisters Sheila (Newbridge), Peggy (Carlow) and Ann (Mount Wolseley, Tullow); brothers Dan (Dublin), Des (Celbridge), Billy (Galway), Michael (Templemore) Johnny (Australia), Paddy and Dermot (Carlow).
