Carlow GAA won't be giving out as many awards at this year's presentation as they have done in the past.

After 27 years of presenting the annual GAA awards, the decision has been made to reduce the number of accolades from 17 to 12.

The recipients will be named on December 20th and then presented with their awards at a function in the Mount Wolseley Golf and Spa Resort on Saturday, January 21st.

However unlike the previous 26 award ceremonies, there will be no presentation for the referee, handballer and rounders players of the year, while the Cumann na mBunscoil and Cumann na Iar-bunscoileanna awards have also been discarded.

This has been met with disdain from some areas within the association, especially by the referee's organisation.

Carlow County Board have stated that they had received feedback from previous events and the general consensus that the presenting of awards went on too long, therefore the function will be streamlined.
