Carlow manager Turlough O'Brien was hopeful his side could go on a run in the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers after their first round win over neighbours Wicklow on Saturday.

However, an away trip to the losers of the Ulster SFC semi-final replay between Tyrone and Cavan is set to be a mammoth task.

"Every year some team makes a run through the qualifiers, why not Carlow?" O'Brien asked in the Irish Daily Star.

"It was there to see tonight, that we've got some very good footballers. There are some top-class in that dressing room, these boys have knuckled down and put a huge effort in.

"The lads showed tremendous battling qualities. We got off to a brilliant start, but we kept it going and every time Wicklow looked like clawing it back, the lads responded. I thought our work-rate was phenomenal."
