The inconsistencies in the GAA's disciplinary system never cease to amaze us.

Take the case of Seamus Murphy who will miss St. Mullin's Leinster club SHC quarter-final against Clonkill at Netwatch Cullen Park tomorrow after receiving a straight red card in the Carlow side's defeat to Raharney in the same competition 12 months ago.

Why has he to wait until now to serve the suspension? Could he not have served it in the first round of this year's Carlow SHC? Philly McMahon received a retrospective one-match ban following a high-profile incident in the recent All-Ireland SFC final and will serve it when Dublin play Kerry in the opening round of next year's Allianz League.

Is it any wonder there is so much frustration surrounding the whole disciplinary process.
