Naomh Eoin manager Jimmy Comerford admitted that they made a nervy start to their championship opener.
A one-point win over Erin's Own got Naomh Eoin off to a perfect start, but they struggled for long periods and had to hold on near the end.
"First day out we showed a lot of nerves. Erin's Own set up very defensively, but spirit and determination showed through near the end," Comerford told the Carlow Nationalist.
"There is a bond there which is special and the players will not be beaten until the final whistle. Erin's Own showed great character and we were a little lucky to come away with a win."
