Carlow manager Pat English has praised the efforts of his players who just came up short against Westmeath in the Leinster SHC.
The Barrowsiders battled away for the seventy plus minutes that was played at Cusack Park last weekend, having trailed by five points midway through the second half, they reduced the gap to just two points by the final whistle.
The defeat leaves the Barrowsiders almost certain not to advance to the provincial quarterfinals, but English is confident that they can turn it around against Laois this weekend.
"We have trained hard for 70 minutes hurling plus," English told the Carlow Nationalist. "It showed the character of the lads who never gave up.
"The character is in them. It will turn and they will come good. They will get results."
