Longford have joined fellow midlanders Offaly on seven points at the top of Division 4.

Jack Sheedy's charges took advantage of the Faithful County's 2-13 to 1-16 draw with Leitrim in Tullamore by beating 14-man Waterford 1-12 to 1-10 at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. However, Longford won't be getting carried away after they almost threw victory away in the second half.

Sean McCormack's goal had helped them to a seemingly unassailable 1-10 to 0-4 half-time lead, but they could only manage two more points after the break as the McGrath Cup champions battled back.

Offaly had also looked to be cruising to victory when they led Leitrim by 2-7 to 0-5 at half-time, but Kevin Conlon's penalty inspired a Leitrim comeback.

Carlow remain in the promotion hunt after recovering from a 0-2 to 0-4 half-time deficit to draw 0-9 each with neighbours Wicklow at Netwatch Cullen Park, while Frank Fitzsimons' Antrim are also in the mix after accounting for bottom-of-the-table London by 1-12 to 1-8 at Toome.

Alan O'Hara had the ball in the Antrim net after just 45 seconds, but the home side hit back immediately with a Conor McGourty penalty and went on to take the win.
