Butler, Jim

January 01, 2001
The tricolour at Dr. Cullen Park for the evening's Ballinkillen-Naomh Eoin Carlow SHC tie flew at half mast in honour of the late Jim Butler (78), Pairc Mhuire, Bagenalstown, who died after a short illness, at his home, writes Charlie Keegan. A life-long and dedicated GAA man, Jim was Deputy vice-chairman of Carlow Co. Board for many years. A founder member of St. Andrew's GFC in 1952, he served the green and gold colours loyally down the years. He was also chairman of the former Muinebheag GAA Club, as was his father before him, the late Paddy Butler. He gave long and dedicated service also as St. Andrew's GFC club treasurer. Jim was a saddler by trade, carrying on business at Regent Street for many years. He was laid to rest in the local Cemetery of the Assumption on Monday, following Mass celebrated by Fr. Tom Bambrick, CC. The coffin was draped with a St. Andrew's jersey. Jim is survived by his wife Marie (nee O'Brien), sons Paddy, Dairmuid, Paul and Jimmy, daughters Maire and Fionnuala, and relatives.
