Rainbow leaves with head held high

Anthony Rainbow believes that the county have made progress under his reign as Carlow senior football manager.

Rainbow stood down from the position at the weekend following a tough year in the role that saw the Barrowsiders hammered by Meath in the Leinster SFC.

They did redeem themselves somewhat in the qualifiers when defeating Waterford, before losing out to Clare in the next round.

Their cause was not helped by the fact that some players refused to make themselves available to the county scene, but Rainbow stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that they are heading in the right direction.

"I know results haven't gone our way but we have made some progress," stated the former Kildare footballer. "I think it might be time for a new manager and a new voice.

"I have no regrets, have made many friends and had an excellent working relationship with the county board."
