A mass braw that broke out in a Carlow senior football championship match at the weekend is to be investigated by the county board.

Kilbride and Tinryland met at Dr Cullen Park in the opening round of the senior football championship last Saturday evening.

In the dying minutes of the game, a fight broke out between two players, but that quickly escalated into a mass brawl as the majority of the players became involved as did some mentors from either side.

It took a few minutes before referee John Hickey could manage to get the situation under control and when he did, he handed out red cards to Kilbride's Seamus Gray and John Fitzpatrick as well as Tinryland's John Dwyer and Ian Scully, while a Tinryland selector was sent to the stands.

The county board are awaiting the referee's report before making a decision on what course of action to take, but it is unlikely that both clubs will go unpunished.
