Carlow chairman Michael Meaney believes the criticism that the players, management and county board have received is unfair.

Since the heavy defeat to Meath in the Leinster SFC, the Barrowsiders have come under a barrage of attack from some of the press and indeed their own supporters.

Meaney himself has been blamed for Carlow football being in such a poor state, but he stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that if he thought that he was the problem, he would resign with immediate effect.

"With hand on heart, if I thought for one minute that I was the obstacle or the county board was the obstacle, I would gladly walk away," stated Meaney.

"Are people suggesting that the county board are, in some way, restricting the preparation or that there is not enough money being spent on county teams?

"Are the people who are saying that doing enough to contribute themselves? Some of this criticism is coming from people who haven't committed themselves."
