Carlow hurler Padraic Nolan has stressed the importance of winning Sunday's NHL Division 2A final.

The Barrowsiders had campaigned to be included in a revamped Division 1B this year, but their pleas fell on deaf ears. Now they have the chance to get where they feel they belong, but they must do it the hard way.

On Sunday, they take on Kerry in the league final at Semple Stadium and the winners of this will face Offaly in a promotion/relegation play-off.

Nolan told the Carlow Nationalist that it is imperative for them to win on Sunday and give themselves a chance of returning to hurling's second tier.

"We're anxious to get back into Division 1B and we'll be looking for a big performance against Kerry. That is where we want to be."

He added: Everyone is looking forward to playing in Semple Stadium, but we don't care where it's played, we have to win."
