Rainbow defends players

Carlow manager Anthony Rainbow has refused to criticise his players following their latest lacklustre performance in the league.

Hopes were high that the Barrowsiders could kick on from their impressive win over Antrim the previous week, but Wicklow handed out a convincing defeat to Rainbow's charges at Dr Cullen Park last Sunday.

The 14-point defeat leaves Carlow rooted to the bottom of Division Four, although they have three games remaining starting with Saturday's tussle with fellow strugglers London.

And Rainbow stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that the players were working extremely hard, which wasn't being reflected on the pitch.

"I know I keep saying it, but when you look at these players, they are putting in a huge effort, week in, week out," Rainbow stressed.

"They are raising the bar every time. Of course, they are disappointed. They have put in a lot of work and have sacrificed a lot of stuff. A lot of credit must go to them. We will get ready for London next Saturday."
