Tim Moore: gentle giant and dedicated GAA man

Tim Moore, Pollerton Road, Carlow, who passed away at St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, was a dedicated GAA man and son of John 'Buller' Moore, a star of the Carlow senior football team of 1944 which won the county's lone Leinster SFC title.

Aged 66, Tim had been in indifferent health for some time but his passing was, nonetheless, unexpected. A single man, Tim Moore will be remembered as something of "a gentle giant." One of a family of four, his mother was the late Sarah Fleming from Carlow town.
Like his father before him, he played Gaelic football for O'Hanrahan's and was selected as a county minor. Although he had a short football career, Tim did line out at championship level for O'Hanrahan's.

While the Blues came first with Tim, he also had great regard for Eire Og, particularly when younger brother Mick lined out for the Teach Asca club. Tim was a promoter for the club's Take Your Pick fundraiser.
He followed Gaelic games closely all his life, at both local and national level, and down the years was a devoted follower of his native Carlow's county sides and Carlow club teams when they competed in the Leinster Club Football Championship.
Tim spent his entire working life spanning some 40 years in the Irish Sugar factory on Athy Road. He had a permanent position at the sugar plant as a fitter's helper. Tim was a highly regarded and popular employee.
Besides the GAA, Tim was also a man who enjoyed a flutter on the horses and was knowledgeable on affairs of the turf.
He was waked at Healy's Funeral Home, Pollerton Castle, with prayers on Tuesday night, 7 May, before removal on Wednesday morning to the Church of the Holy Family, Askea on Wednesday morning.
Fr Tom Little, PP, Askea-Bennekerry-TinryIand, celebrated Tim's funeral Mass, assisted by Fr John Dunphy, PP, Graiguecullen-Kilteshin.
The Eire Og flag was placed on Tim's coffin. The beautiful singing at Mass was by Louise Delaney. After Mass, he was laid to rest in St Mary's Cemetery, Carlow with his grandparents and uncle Tom Moore.
Tim is survived by his brother Michael (Mick) (Heatherhilt Park, Graiguecullen), sisters Rose Lawlor (Fr Byrne Park, Graiguecullen) and Marian Webster (Askea Lawns), by his uncle Tom Fleming (Lower Pollerton Road), grandniece Molly Lawlor, by his nieces, nephews, neighbours and many friends.
