Leinster MHC: brilliant Kavanagh shots down Kildare

April 23, 2012
Marty Kavanagh scored 1-14 as Carlow came from behind to defeat Kildare in Saturday's Leinster MHC first round clash at Newbridge.

Carlow 1-19
Kildare 2-13

The brilliant wing forward accounted for all of Carlow's first half tally of 1-8 and scored the last three points to give them the edge. Kildare made a dream start when Evan Dempsey netted after just 20 seconds and he added a second goal in the quarter-hour mark to help them to a 2-9 to 1-8 interval lead.

The visitors were much improved after the restart, though, and after Ryan Casey brought them level with seven minutes remaining, Kavanagh took centre stage to fire them to victory.

Carlow will now travel to Mullingar to face Westmeath in the round-robin series.
