All-Ireland club IHC SF: MLR hold off late Emmetts rally

January 23, 2012
Mount Leinster Rangers held off a late rally by Robert Emmetts to win by 0-13 to 0-11 at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Carlow and Leinster champions are the first club from the county to reach an All-Ireland club hurling final as they withstood a late onslaught from the exiles to book their spot in the final.

Robert Emmetts were left to rue 12 wides in the first half, which proved very costly indeed, although they still lead by 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.

Maurice Callanan and Peter Atkinson were the best forwards on show for Emmetts, but in the second half Eoin Doyle took the game to the exiles and helped his side to a three-point lead by the 45th minute.

The Londoners fought back to level matters, but once again MLR pulled away thanks to scores from Denis Murphy. Emmetts substitute Damien McCormack had a great chance of a goal late on, but to the relief of the Carlow side, the sliotar sailed wide.
