O'Byrne Shield: Laois prove too strong for Carlow

January 16, 2012
Laois maintained the bragging rights over neighbours Carlow with 1-14 to 1-7 victory at. Dr. Cullen Park on Sunday afternoon.

From the very first minute of play Laois were in command, seconds in midfielder Peter O'Leary buried the ball to Andrew O'Brien's net.

Leading by five by the break - 1-5 to 0-3, Laois picked up where they left off after the resumption with scores from Colm Kelly and David Conway. Substitute Ross Munnelly also impressed scoring three points.

It took Carlow over 40 minutes to register their first score from play courtesy of Daniel St. Ledger. Brendan Murphy grabbed a goal back for the home side on 61 minutes but the game looked to be beyond them.

Laois had Billy Sheehan dismissed for a straight red card and minutes later O'Leary got his marching orders for a second yellow card offence.
