U-21 rematch "out of our hands" - Carlow

August 19, 2010
In echoes of the Meath-Louth debacle in the Leinster senior football championship earlier this summer, the Carlow County Board's Competitions Control Committee (CCC) insist that it has no power to order a replay of the controversial Mount Leinster Rangers-Naomh Brid Carlow U-21 hurling championship semi-final.

Mount Leinster were awarded a place in the final after Naomh Brid were unable to field a team due to the fact that several players were on holidays at the time.

The CCC upheld the decision to give a walk-over to Rangers - who could go forward to the final without having played a single match in the competition to date - but stressed that the senior county champions could yet offer a rematch to the vanquished side.

The Nationalist reports a CCC source as saying, "They can offer a fixture to Naomh Brid if they wish but it's out of our hands now, it's like the Louth versus Meath situation that we seen this year, but unfortunately we can't arrange replays under those circumstances."
