Carlow chief concerned by ref "inconsistencies"

Carlow chairman Pat Deering has called a meeting with match officials to end refereeing "inconsistencies" which have blighted recent games in the county.

Deering said in the Irish Examiner: "There would be inconsistencies in some regards, for example, a player could get a yellow card or two yellow cards or a red card for an incident, and in a similar type of incident in another game the referee might not take action. It's been noticeable in a number of football championship matches in particular.

"Some referees are slower to report these incidents. We just want to have everyone on the same wavelength and with that in mind, we're organising a meeting of the referees to brief them on the situation."

Deering is also concerned at the lack of respect shown to referees.

"The indiscipline is a worrying development, something that has carried on from the county team and filtered down. It's something we want to eradicate. Abuse and mounting towards officials has become very common and as an association, we would want to stamp that out."
