Carlow GAA fan struck by sliotar

July 15, 2010
A Carlow GAA fan attending a top senior hurling club game in the county had to receive hospital treatment after being struck by a sliotar last weekend.

Mount Leinster Rangers and Ballinkillen met in the SHC at Dr Cullen Park last Saturday and at the end of the game, it is alleged that a member of the Ballinkillen club hit a sliotar at Christy Hynes, an MLR supporter, who had made comments to the Ballinkillen panel, as they were warming down after the match.

Hynes was struck in the eye with the sliotar and needed five stitches, but it is not yet known whether the Gardai or the Carlow county board would be launching an investigation into the incident.
